The news: Christianity Today profiles Os Guinness, the British Christian public intellectual and best-selling author, reflecting on his decades of work calling Christians to rigorous thinking about their faith and their place in the world. Guinness, shaped by his time in America and at L'Abri in Switzerland, has influenced hundreds of thousands of readers to take ideas — and their consequences — seriously.
Why it matters for church leaders: Indian pastors face a congregation pulled in competing directions — nationalism, consumerism, social media, caste pressures, and theological confusion. Guinness's core challenge is deeply relevant here: are we discipling people to think Christianly, or simply to feel good on Sunday? Leaders who build thinking congregations build resilient ones.
The takeaway: Set aside time this month to read one substantive book — or assign one to your leadership team — that strengthens your congregation's ability to think faithfully about faith and culture.
